Gold Volcano from Play’n GO is a video slot with "cluster pays" mechanics on a volcano-shaped grid where symbols must connect horizontally or vertically in at least groups of four to yield a win. Each winning combination causes the symbols to disappear and new symbols fall from above, creating cascading effects. The game features several random mechanics in the base game called the Dormant-feature: Rumble shakes the grid and adds a Scatter, Lava adds new symbols around the edges of the grid, and Excavate adds 3–5 Wilds randomly. The pressure beneath the volcano ("Pressure") can create Wild symbols in empty spaces between cascades, and some Wilds can have x2 multipliers that multiply each other if multiple Wilds are included in the same cluster.

Scatter collection ("Crystallisation") is also included: each time a Scatter appears, a meter increases, and at three, six, and nine Scatters, different mid-tier jewels upgrade to gold symbols with higher value. After six consecutive cascades without gaps, Eruption Free Spins are activated, providing five free spins on a larger 8×8 grid, and you receive an additional free spin for each new series of six cascades during the free spins. During the free spins phase, the progress in the Crystallisation meter carries over – it does not reset.

There is no option to directly purchase the bonus feature ("Bonus Buy") – Free Spins must be activated through the game's cascading mechanics.
