Mutagenes by Yggdrasil is a video slot with a grid of 6 columns and 4 rows, offering 4,096 ways to win. The slot features a sci-fi/horror theme set in an alien laboratory where mutants are being grown, with cartoonish grotesque creatures and strange science scenes. There is a cascade mechanic: when you win, the winning symbols disappear, and new symbols fall down to fill the empty spaces, with each cascade increasing a win multiplier above the reels.

There is an infection feature that occurs in both the base game and during free spins; low or medium symbols can randomly become "infected" and transform into high-paying mutant head symbols.
