Tempered Steel, developed by Yggdrasil, is a video slot that immerses players in the environment of a blacksmith's forge, featuring a layout of 5×3 reels and 20 paylines. The game is visually striking, with a dark and fiery aesthetic that highlights metallic symbols and weapons crafted in flames, including hammers, swords, axes, and daggers. The blacksmith himself serves as the Wild symbol, which can substitute for all paying symbols except for the scatter symbol labeled "Bonus."
In the base game, players may trigger three bonus features at random: Lock and Spin, Bonus Frenzy, and Forge Your Weapon. During the Lock and Spin feature, if a stack of wilds appears, the corresponding reel is locked while the other reels spin again; if multiple reels lock, players receive extra respins until new wild stacks emerge or all reels are locked. Bonus Frenzy adds extra scatter symbols to the reels, increasing the likelihood of entering the free spins round. The Forge Your Weapon feature allows players to break three rocks, revealing a weapon that will then stack on one or more reels.
Tempered Steel stands out with its "unlimited" free spins feature: when players collect at least three scatter symbols, the free spins round activates with forges beneath each reel. Each spin can trigger one or more forges that create a wild stack on the corresponding reel. As spins continue, the wild stack rises one position until it exits the screen, extinguishing the forge; the game ends when all forges are off, but they may randomly reactivate, possibly enlarging the wild stacks if they haven't reached their maximum size.
In jurisdictions where permitted, a Buy Bonus option is also offered, allowing players to access the free spins round immediately for a cost of 100 times their bet, ensuring at least three scatter symbols. This high volatility game emphasizes symbol combinations, stacked wilds, and the exciting potential of bonus reels, providing an engaging gaming experience.
